The Gorilla Friendly™ Pledge campaign was initiated by the International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP) – a coalition of Conservation Intenational, Fauna & Flora International and WWF – and Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network (WFEN) as a way to raise awareness and willing compliance of established gorilla visitation rules and regulations meant to ensure a rewarding experience for the visitor and minimize the risk of disease transmission to, and behavior change of, the gorillas. The Pledge is part of the larger Certified Gorilla Friendly™ program for Park Edge Products and Tourism.
The content of the Pledge originates from existing visitation rules and regulations and as outlined in the IUCN Best Practice Guidelines for Great Ape Tourism .
